AYURVEDA is a healing system which, like tantra, was invented by Lord Shiva in India more than 6000 years ago, prior to the Rig Veda. The term Ayurveda comes from two Sanskrit words, “ayu” meaning life and “veda”, or knowledge. Ayurveda takes a holistic approach to health care. Unlike the practice of medicine in the west, which tends to treat the body as an entity apart from the mind and spirit, the Ayurvedic system consists of treating and balancing the body, mind, senses and the spirit.


This science believes we are made of five elements: earth, water, fire, air and ether. These elements combine and create three major physiological functions in our body. This TRIDOSHA, which governs our metabolism is known as Vata, Pitta and Kapha.

While are three doshas are present in each of us, one will be predominant in our constitution, and therefore we work to balance this to benefit our well-being. The TRIDOSHA affects our physical health, appearance, immune system, our finances, temperament, dreams and so on.

For instance, Vata predominant people are creative and enthusiastic. Their constitution consists of ether and air. They are nervous and high strung, predisposed to anxiety, insomnia and constipation. An ayurvedic formula Yogaraj Guggulu is a traditional formula designed to reduce excess vata in the system, and aches and pains of joints and muslces.

Pittas are focused and intellectual, ambitious, articulate, judgmental. The elements of pitta are fire and water. An herbal remedy for pitta imbalances is available for pain in abdomen, etc.

Kaphas, from water and earth, have a tendency to gain weight. They have a slow metabolism and can be lethargic, so they need to exercise. They are caring and grounded. A special formula for kaphas supports proper function of the lymphatic system and promotes elimination of toxins and sinus congestion.

The science of Ayurveda involves following a nutritious diet, including HERBS, having a regular meditation practice, sufficient sleep, proper breathing, fasting, and yoga for exercise. A concerted effort is made to avoid contaminants within and without.

Just as tantra is about having a perfect balance between sex, meditation and spiritual practices, Ayurveda is about balancing our metabolism through nutrition, for rejuvenation, health, vitality and energy. Ayurveda makes it possible to live a long life with purpose and quality.

Tantra is an ever-evolving spiritual practice, a lifestyle that takes us from the mundane to the sublime. Tantra takes the best and makes it better. Tantra enhances every corner of our lives, bringing light and life to everything we do, through practices such as Jyotish and Ayurveda.
